Elwood Sturges McCluskey (1925 -2009)

McCLUSKEY—Elwood, ’43, went to his rest on September 6, 2009. Elwood’s parents lived in Twin Falls at the time Elwood was an academy student.
One time after a home leave he and the other students from Twin, to conserve money, rode back to school in the back of an empty cement truck.
Elwood got acquainted with Esther Andregg, ’43, while working with her in the business office at GSA. Shortly after graduation Elwood was drafted into the US Army, and he cared for wounded and emaciated soldiers who had been POWs. In 1946 he received an honorable discharge and
enrolled at Walla Walla College. It was at WWC that he and Esther connected again—this time their friendship led to marriage. After completing his M.A. in Biology, he taught two years at Atlantic Union College before receiving a call to teach at Loma Linda University, an appointment he held for over 30 years. In 1959 Elwood received his Ph.D. from Stanford. Two years later Elwood and his colleagues established a Ph.D. in Biology at LLU, with a Creationist approach. He retired in 1995 and began writing his book, Biology and Evidence, which was published in 2005. His bride of 61 years and his four children survive him.
